"splitting Iraq" and "outsourcing jobs"

I have read a lot of reports recommending splitting of Iraq to bring peace. Ideally, I do not think it is a right path to take because people would always find way to discriminate agaist each other; today it is ethinc background, tomarrow it could something new, we should not yeild to it, it is a bad habit. Praposed solution is a dead end; there is only that much you can see in this road.

There is a parallel between out-sourcing and splitting of Iraq; both actions or rather reactions are very short sighted.

How many times can a society be split to gain the peace?
Similarly, without concentrating valuable inventions, how many quarters can a company show profit by just outsourcing?

I don't think outsourcing has only short-term benefits. In fact, if corporations can transfer trivial tasks offshore and concentrate on 'core competencies' and focus on diverting energies towards 'the next big idea', they can really leverage the emerging human capital from developing countries.

Why should technologically advanced economies continue to do trivial stuff? Thats not a proper utilization of their resources. Emerging economies, on the other hand, can benefit from using their man power towards that work and get up to speed and participate in the global battle for world economy! :)

I have been working as a software engineer from past 9-10 years in established technology companies; and my comments are the result of that experience. I am mentioning this to make sure that you know that I am not just an NPR listener :-)

Coming to your comments...
>if corporations can transfer trivial tasks offshore..

I have a rough idea of what industry calls as "trivial" jobs. Most of the software engineering work involving writing C, C++, VB code is being labeled as 'trivial'.

Unfortunately, these ‘trivial’ jobs help companies to develop culture of R&D.
R&D culture would influence the non-technical management to value R&D, which in turn may lead to funding of R & D projects. I can see the effect of lack of this culture in 'established' companies. Upper management not only does not comprehend the value R&D but also lacks courage to venture in to safest of development projects. Upper management is just interested in satisfying ‘share holders’. As result of short sighted approach, companies have been re-releasing their same decade old flagship products with trivial changes. This is comparable to TOYOTO changing 'headlight' shape to makeup for a new version of Camry :-). Sorry for the crude example. Thus industry would become stagnant.

S/W engineer is like a chef. A 'healthy' restaurant needs a chef :-)
